Be smart, play cunning, and pickup craps the ideal way!
Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes all the way back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately 100 years old. Modern craps developed from the old English game called Hazard. Nobody knows for certain the beginnings of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It’s theorized that Sir William’s knights played Hazard during a blockade on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the fortress’s name.
Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when banished by the British, the French moved down south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they eventually became Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they brought their favorite game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it fair mathematically. It is said that the Cajuns adjusted the title to craps, which is gotten from the name of the non-winning toss of 2 in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi scows and all over the country. A few consider the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In 1907, Winn designed the current craps setup. He created the Do not Pass line so players could bet on the dice to lose. Later, he established the spaces for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
