The recorded history of Craps dates all the way back to a dice game called Hazard, which dates back to Bernard de Mandeville in New Orleans in 1813. Hazard is thought to be a descendant of Azzahr, which means ‘the die’ a game enjoyed by Arabs.

The game developed as it traveled from the Arab countries to Europe and then to the UK. By the early 18th century, formal rules for Hazard had been developed. France started playing the English variation of Hazard and is thought to have been brought to America by early French colonizers. In the mid-1700s, when the English beat the French in British North America, the French colonists moved to Louisiana. Dice were enjoyed on river boats, casinos and wharfs and a simplified ‘American’ style of Craps was created. The game headed west and is a favored game that is competed in all over the United States and throughout the planet.

The name ‘Craps’ is believed to be a French enunciation of the phrase crabs, which alludes to a pair of ones. There are two general kinds of Craps that are played-street Craps and casino Craps. Street caps, correctly named since it’s competed in on the streets is where a shooter sets a point and then tries to make that point. The betting is made either for or against the hurler and a player must cover the wager for the game to carry on.

In casino Craps, which is the normal game, wagered on in betting houses, the casino funds the casino game. The players gamble against the house-the house covers all of the wagers of all of the gamblers. Craps was a very well-liked casino game but in the past twenty years had divided itself and different games, like poker and black jack became more well-loved. However, Craps is experiencing a come back in recognition once again in net casinos and in real world casinos.
